Hey iRex,
yesterday I stumbled over an extremly annoying issue for me, though it is seemingly a minor one.
When I read a mobipocket book I like to look up words in a dictionary - so far so good. But I tend to do this often but not always. In order to save battery live (3 hours, 7 days a week *ridiculous* ... mine was sold with this specifications to me!) I always place my stylus back into its slot.
Now when I keep the look-up (the magnifying-glass icon) function active and put the stylus back, ALWAYS !!! the very first word on the page will be looked up while I insert the stylus.
[Edit 3: a video showing this odd behaviour.]
Yes I know it is possible to turn off the look-up-function every time I have used it. But that is always some hassle, I have to wait for it to get active, pick my word ... and when ready turn it off again, replace the stylus. I just want to get the stylus and pick the word. - Done!
Know I think this is of course a hardware issue, but I fear this cannot be solved any more with hardware, so I'd like to ask the iRex team to pick up the following suggestions:
[Edit1: by carefully keeping a small piece of aluminium foil between the backside of the screen and the tip of the stylus while inserting back, the signal seems to be not emitted. so iRex could produce a small metal part that could be inserted into the fist two or three centimeters of the stylus slot. Pity that this has not been tested before ]
1.) the best: try to differentiate between real and unintended click-signals from behind the screen.
2.) make the look-up function to react in two ways.
a) a long 'click' upon the icon locks the look-up function - just like the CapsLock-key
b) a short click, activates until the next lookup-click has been emitted and after that turns itself off.
3.) make the wacom-device turn off after a certain amount of time (configurable in the settings maybe (10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, never or similar) so I can keep my stylus outside its slot and have the same battery-savings effect. A short click down within mobipocket reader for example could reactivate the wacom.
I think the 1. would be solution for hte root of my problem, the third would be cool in general .
So far I work around with my good old palm stylus, to turn off and on the wacom-device while I can keep the iLiad stylus outside and do not release unintended signals.
[Edit 2: I do not have the same issue with scribbling on a pdf-file it seems, not black dots ... - so obviously a mobipocket issue]
Cheers,

Yes, yes, yes! I have noted this exact same problem with replacing the stylus after looking up a word in a dictionary while using the Mobipocket viewer! It's very frustrating ... _________________ ROBERT J. SAWYER, Science Fiction Writer

Hey Robert, maybe you could try to confirm if the solution with the aluminium foil works for you as well.
I have made some further investigation on this problem.
The signal is emitted when in notes mode (blank png for example). And strokes are painted, interestingly it is the to be expected upper right side, not the upper left as with mobipocket.
This is even worse than the problem from the first post in this thread, as it adds strokes that were not intended to be. I need the iLiad for scientific drawings and I do not need strokes that I did not paint. _________________ dLetter - iLiad email client |
