|
|
Has anyone else noticed a screen burn-in from the contentlister? When opening a new (blank) note page I can clearly see the 6 lines and boxes from the content lister. I can make a new page cycle back and forth in order to refresh the screen a couple of times, but the burn in still exists. The screen also seems to be more "grey" than it used to be, but this may be normal.
I'm not sure if this would be considered a defect or if it would be covered under warranty.

| Can you post a image of it, i have seen times that it's normal or screens that the ghosting is a failure of the screen .... |

Ghosting has gotten worse as well. Here's an image taken after the iLiad has shut down. Keep in mind the screen did a full refresh twice. Once before showing the shut down screen, and once to erase that.

I've noticed a similar slight increase with ghosting over time, but I figured it was normal. My theory is that if parts of the screen consistently display the same color, they get more influenced by it. For the same reason, I really enjoy fullscreen ipdf, because the toolbars don't show up all the time. I don't know if it really makes a difference, though. |

Adam, I have the same problem with the screen and it is very tiring for the eyes.
I e-mailed the support and after three, four weeks waiting I called them. I had sent them a picture too. OK, the support will send my some thing for sending back my device for repairing. Hope it will happen soon!
From beginning the screen was white and clear. Bur already the second day after receiving the Iliad that problem appears, first light then worser. |

| I have had a similar problem for a month or so. The ghosting I have is the one of the toolbar (always a bit visible in the background) and very blurry lines of the books I read, even when the device is off. It's not as marked as Adam's one, but it's slightly visible. |

Mine's always kind of done that. Slight ghosting when looking at a blank screen. If the last thing I was on was the content listener, then it looks similar to your pictures. If I was reading text last then I can see faint gray ghosting where the lines of text were.
I just thought it was an e-ink deal. It's not really noticeable when I'm reading data, stands out more when the screen is blank. It's never really bothered me.
I think there are some trade-offs in the current generation of e-ink screens regarding contrast vs ghosting. I don't know if that's controlled in the waveforms that the iRex engineers work with, or if there's a way of changing the contrast yourself if you have shell access (probably a waveform thing that user's can't change). |

I have the same problem. A ghosting is visible. Luckily it is not hampering my reading. And I guess next patch may fix that.
I will keep an eye on it. |

Hello,
here is a pdf I created:
http://m.domaindlx.com/iLiad/an_iLiad_ghostbuster.pdf
The pages are completely colored without text:
1st page: 100% black
2nd: white
3. 80% gray
4. 60%
5. 40%
6. 20%
7. white
8.-11. gradients (white to black in different directions)
12. white
When I open it, on the first page (which is 100% black) I see quite some burn/ghosting (the images were auto-leveled in photoshop - that's why 80% gray looks darker than 100% black):
It is even more visible on page 3 (which is 80% gray)
But if I go through the whole pdf the ghosting is (almost) completely gone.
When I go back to the content lister and then open the pdf again the ghosting appears again, although I cannot say if it's less than before.
Feel free to download the pdf and experiment for yourself and let us know what you found out.
Ciao,
Mark. |

Unfortunately, after going all the way forward, back and forward again, the burn still exists. I think this is permanent... |
Too sad.
Initially I didn't read your earlier post with the picture of the iLiad turned off. My iLiad does not show any burn-in when switched off. Maybe you could try to go through the pdf for some rounds and leave the pages for some seconds before turning and then switch off the device directly from the pdf.
But I think it is likely to be a defect that iRex will have to fix - I feel sorry for you and I hope this will not keep you from porting/developing for the iLiad in the future. |

It's usable (however annoying), right now. So it won't keep me from porting any longer than it takes to be repaired. _________________ Openiliad.com - Your source for iLiad Software and Documentation |

| I do notice this ghosting even when the iLiad is turned off, but it seems relatively minor to me. As Shaggy said, it's not really very noticeable or distracting when I'm reading things, only when the screen is mostly black or mostly white. I always assumed it was a natural characteristic of 1st-gen e-ink, that it would tend to ghost more as it was used. Anyway, it hasn't been a big problem for me, but I haven't had my iLiad very long compared to Adam and some other forum members. |
