My iLiad is no longer booting.

I was ssh'ed into my iLiad. I scp'ed a file system image to /mnt/protected. I had some problems renaming it, (command would hang), but I eventually got it renamed to fs.gz. I also did a "echo "1" > /proc/sysset/updfs". I tried to reboot, but it would just hang. So I hit the reset button.

Now the iLiad doesn't boot. I don't get the booting splash screen, I press the power button, and I only get a green light. What happened? Is there any way to fix it (it doesn't seem to respond to the IDS button press)?

This is very odd...

That sucks.

Was it the image we were talking about yesterday?

Yep. But I can't imagine it would have anything to do with that specific image. It's very odd.

Unless we did something too creative with the inodes/blocks trying to solve the compression deal that somehow made it incompatible with the flash routine. It looked like you had it pretty close to what iRex did with their original image, but without being more familiar with the guts of the flash process I don't know what potential pitfalls there might be.

Was this at least one of the units that they donated to developers? Are they providing support for it?

I hope it's not your personal iLiad.

It was my personal iLiad Confused

I don't think it ever got to the reflash procedure. It simply wouldn't power on after I copied the image to the protected partition, which shouldn't be any different than copying something to the root partition.

Sorry to hear that. I don't know what's going on. The only way of knowing is to look at the serial port output.

If no splash screen is shown, that means it fails inside the bootloader. So either it doesn't even get into the bootloader, or something causes the bootloader to hang.

Something has apparently corrupted some part of the Flash that is needed for the device to boot into Linux. Possibly something related to sysset.

I guess the only way to get this fixed is return the device so it can be formatted and reflashed by our service department.

Is doing an echo "1" the proper way to initiate a file system reflash in sysset?
