|
|
I have added the iLiad support to my BookDesigner program and now it is ready for beta testing.
OS: Windows 95 - XP (under win 95, 98, Me not all the options will work).
Input files: txt, doc, rtf, html, lit, pdf, fb2, prc, pdb, rb, klm, html0
Output files: txt, doc, rtf, html, lit, pdf, fb2, rb, imp, lrf, prc, pdb, klm, html0, BookImage (graphic files with clickable links)
The languages supported: Western Europe, Central Europe, Cyrillic.
Installation
1. Download and install the main program
http://www.the-ebook.org/e107/e107_files/downloads/bd/BookDesigner40.zip
2. Download and unpack to Program Files/ Book Designer 4.0 directory the iLiad update
http://www.the-ebook.org/e107/e107_files/downloads/bd/Bd_Update_2006_09_13.zip
iLiad module notes
1. Output files: pdf, html, txt
2. To run iLiad module: Make eBooks -> iLiad
3. It is recommended to make pdf files. There are two options for pdf printer: "PDFCreator" or "user-defined".
- "PDFCreator": v.0.9.3 or higher has to be installed.
- "user-defined": read help to assign properly the custom page size.
4. Despite of html and text creation options are activated it is not recommended to use them now, they are for the future because the corresponding iLiad viewers need a lot of improvements. But if you will, bear in mind the following things:
- html. If your book language is not English, choose "Times New Roman" font.
- text. Do not use it to make non-English books.

Questions
Is there a way to get rid of the wordwrap in lib files without correctiong every paragraph by hand?
Can I change the fontsize of the iliad format my self?
I would love to open a book without automatically getting the autor and book title and so on detected, how?
Big Wishes:
A rightclick iliad formatting or
commandline access to the bookdesigner.
Yes I know I want to much. |

Do you mean lit files? To be true, I have newer seen lit files with the wordwrap. Send me please some example of such a file, and I will see what I can do.

When your book is loaded, you can change any element type through Element Browser (Tools -> Element Browser). For example, to convert all the titles to paragraphs, do as follows
- drop box -> titles -> find
- select all the items in the list (Ctrl+click on the first item, then Shift+click on the last item)
- drop box "re-format selected elements as" -> paragraph -> do

Right-click -> Make eBook -> iLiad
command-line: BookDesigner.exe -r «input file name» |

It tells me I need to have MS Word 2000 to output html or pdf.
Is this really necessary? I do not want to install MS Word on my computer... |

Yes it is necessary because the program uses MS Word libraries to process some types of files.
The users asked me several times to use Open Office instead of MS Word. I will do it with time, but not right now. |

Right-click -> Make eBook -> iLiad
command-line: BookDesigner.exe -r «input file name»

Cannot find it, even reinstalling does not change anything for the right-click options of the files.
Thank you
Maybe you can integrate a way to find headers even when they are integrated in the page, changing and are written in the same line as the page number. Yes I know I say silly things |

"font sizes, pt" - allows to assign font sizes for book elements (points):
header: font size for book author and book title
titles: font size for titles
subtitle: font size for subtitles
text: font size for other elements (paragraphs, epigraphs, verses, etc)
"margins, mm" - allows to assign left, right, top, bottom margins (millimeters).
I did not provide yet an option to assign pdf page sizes because MS Word which is used for the page formatting has a bug: it rounds custom page sizes to the nearest standard ones . However I am going to add soon an option allowing one to use Open Office as a pdf printer. As soon as I will finish with this option, it will be a possibility to change page sizes manually.

Tell me what items are shown when you make the right-click inside the main program window? (the first one has to be "delete", the last one - "make eBook"). If there are no these items, press Help -> Book Designer updates and tell me what date is shown in "last update". |

Ah ok sorry little missunderstanding I want a "right-klick on the file"-> "make iliad" in the explorer window that processes the file directly into pdf
By the way I don't like pdf creator i prefer pdfcreate! it is not freeware but the output is half the filesize of pdf creator. |

The Wikipedia library has been published by libri.de as prc files, using the GNU Free Documentation License.
http://www.libri.de/shop/shortcut/wikipedia
But unfortunately BookDesigner is not able to open these files. The error message is: cannot unpack Palm-file. Perhaps you can look into it. Would be nice to have the library as a pdf or html collection for the iliad.

A new BD version which will be avalible this week allows to use Open Office as a pdf printer. The pdf's produced with this option are also two times smaller than these ones from PdfCreator. Well, Open Office is bigger than pdfcreate but it is a freeware. Also with the Open Office I can provide an automatic notes->footnotes transformation in a relatively simple way while with pdfcreate this transformation is quite complicated. |

prc is just a common extension for different types of palm databases. If BD knows the data type, it processes a file. But if not - the error message appears. For this reason it is written "Palm e-books (prc, pdb, restricted)" in the main BD help.
But I will see if I can do something with Wikipedia prc's. |

Due to the user's requests the following options allowing for more flexible pdf creation have been added to BookDesigner program (make eBooks -> iLiad).
1. User-defined page size ("page size, mm")
2. The MS Word bug related to the "custom page size" has been fixed. Now the pdf's made with the option "pdf printer -> PDFCreator" have correct page sizes (as they chosen in "page size, mm").
3. A possibility to use the inner pdf printer of Open Office ("pdf printer -> Open Office"). This option is recommended for iLiad owners: the pdf's are created faster and they are much more smaller than those ones made with PDFCreator.
4. A possibility to use the pdf printer chosen by the user ("pdf printer -> user: Open Office"). This option is recommended for Sony Reader owners (with PrimoPDF printer). But try to find a proper page size in "page size, mm" (I cannot do it because I have no Sony Reader yet).
The more detailed instruction can be seen pressing the "help" button in "Make iLiad file" window.
Who already has BookDesigner installed.
1. Download and unpack to Program Files/ Book Designer 4.0 directory the last update
http://www.the-ebook.org/e107/e107_files/downloads/bd/Bd_Update_2006_09_13.zip
Who has no BookDesigner installed.
1. Download and install the main program
http://www.the-ebook.org/e107/e107_files/downloads/bd/BookDesigner40.zip
2. Download and unpack to Program Files/ Book Designer 4.0 directory the last update
